These short illustrated Bible lessons will uplift, edify, and encourage you to trust in God and follow his wisdom. (Pictures Bingcopilot)
"No one, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God" (Jesus, Luke 9:62).
The ox or horse that pulls the plough is strong. The plough made by the blacksmith is fit for purpose. And the farmer ploughing keeps his eyes looking forward to make an accurate furrow. Fix your eyes on Jesus and rightly divide his word of truth (2Timothy 2:15, Hebrews 12:2).
"Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul." (1Peter 2:11 NKJV).
Dear Christian, you are just passing through this world to your home in heaven. Be a good pilgrim by God's grace. For example, Abraham "looked for a city with foundations, whose builder and maker is God". And we likewise "have here no continuing city, but we seek the one to come." (Hebrews 11:8, 13:14).
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me" (Psalm 23:4).
Death is a mystery, a shadowy valley, but we are assured that we can pass through safely and have victory over death. If you want to know more, Paul explains very well some aspects of death (1Corinthians 15:20-58).
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:4-9).
For many, life is like a jigsaw puzzle. And there's a missing peace. But Jesus says, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).
"Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, Just as we hope in You" (Psalm 33:20-22).
The Psalmist tells us that God's promises will come to pass in due time. Meanwhile, he is our helper, our protector, our joy. He is trustworthy, holy, merciful. He is our hope. What a marvelous God he is!
"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!" (Romans 11:33).
There are two wisdoms —the wisdom of God and the wisdom of men. The wisdom of men can be much mistaken, even foolish. Moreover, the knowledge that goes with human wisdom is always changing.
"Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?" (1Corinthians 1:20).
God’s wisdom is unchangeable, unlimited, priceless, powerful, and more! God’s wisdom is past finding out except by divine revelation. Indeed, "God has hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children" (Matthew 11:25).
"The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth; He fashions their hearts individually. He considers all their works." (Psalm 33:13-15 NKJV).
We are being observed! The psalmist is not talking about microphones and cameras all around us, watching, listening, recording. He is talking about God watching us. God sees everything that every person on earth ever does. And he considers it well. Furthermore he not only observes our works: he looks into our hearts. He knows what we think, and if our thoughts are bad he can fashion our hearts to think good thoughts. With your participation, God can give you a new heart and manner of thinking, fashioned especially for you (Psalm 51:10).
